What’s not amazing about getting to start afresh every 365 days, give or take the occasional leap year?

This past month I got to think a lot about life and health and choices.

I could tell you it was all due to yoga and OHM, but the truth of the matter is that our choices have consequences for our lives and health, and every once in a while we get the privilege of contemplating the results. Like, close up and personal. It’s rarely comfortable, but it’s usually productive. And that’s all the philosophy you’re going to get from me at the moment. Because I have something far more exciting to tell you about: what this all means for Kær!

Starting today, January 1, 2019, there’s going to be some massive changes. The short version? It’s all about minimizing waste and destruction, and all about maximizing sharing and joy.

Cutting out the middle man = Kær just got more affordable!

At the end of 2018, we retired all Kær products from brick-and-mortar stores. This means we no longer are bound by no-competition clauses and can sell made-to-order clothing at pricing that makes our wearable street-art less of a luxury and more of a treat. This was an easy change to make and one that has been a while coming. We have pretty much cut our pricing in half. Permanently. You’re welcome!

Leaving Facebook = Kær just got more ethical!

We are phasing out all use of Zuckerberg products, including Instagram, by the end of January 2019. I don’t think I need you tell you why, but for those of you who haven’t heard yet, here’s a decent article about some of the problems. Basically, Facebook and its leadership make “shady business practices” look like sun valley.

[Yes, I know that Facebook in many places in the world is a key tool for organizing and protest. I am totally into that, and Kær retiring from Facebook won’t affect this truth. Our privilege allows us the possibility to make a (small) point by refusing to do business with this one company. We are seizing it].

We’re gearing up for a stronger presence on Tumblr and Medium — so don’t forget to follow us there :) And we’ll always be right where we started: at www.kaerbrooklyn.com.

B for beautiful, bluebell, blessings, and being alive!

Launching two no-waste collections = Kær just got more environmentally sound!

There’s something about clothing that isn’t being used. It’s not only a bit sad, it’s also not environmentally sound. That’s why we are launching two new no-waste collections at Kær in 2019:

  1. Sample Sale.
This is where we sell the products we have made for industrial sampling or photo-shoots, at below cost. Because, honestly, we just want them to have a life. If your size is not there, it’s because we didn’t make it for a model (sorry!). [You can always order it made-to-order to the usual price. Good news is that we insist on inclusive sizing, so your size will certainly come around some time, whatever it is :)]
  2. Upcycled by Kær.
You love thrifting. We love thrifting.
You love Kær . We love Kær.
And later on in 2019, we’re launching “Upcycled by Kær”: the perfect combination of the two. There will be beautified jeans jackets. There will be Kær-piping on pants. There will be flowers in all the right places. There will be exclusive, unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. And they will all be made with love.
Zat’s it, folks! Buckle down for 2019: it’s going to be quite the ride.
